32nd Sunday of Ordinary

 The Gift Mk. 12:41-44

Jesus is standing in the temple

And he sees two people

A rich man and a poor widow.

The rich man put in a large amount of money in the collection

While the poor widow put in a few cents.

But it was the widow who gave the most.

Because while the rich man gave from his surplus.

The widow gave from her heart.

We have come to this Temple.

And at every Mass

people give to the collection.

It doesn’t matter how much one gives to the collection.

What matters is where the gift come from.

Does it come from one’s surplus

Or does it come from one’s heart?

The rich man gave from his surplus

So he held something back for Himself.

While the widow gave from her heart.

Giving everything she had to God.

And that is the difference between giving God what is in our pocket

And giving God what is in our hearts.

It is not the amount,

But the place from which it is given

That makes the gift special.
