Thursday 5th Week of Ordinary Time

 Humility instead of power (Mk:7:24-30)

Ask most people how to get what you want and they will say power, money, or popularity.

When it comes to the ways of the world this is true.

But God is different.

God has plenty of power, riches and popularity so these things do not interest Him or influence Him.

What do we have that God could possibly need or does not already have?

Therefore we should approach God in all humility and admit that we have nothing and are nothing.

This is what draws down His Mercy and Compassion upon us.

This is exactly what the Syro-Phonecian woman did.

She humbled herself before Jesus and He was so moved by her humility that He granted her what she asked.

As Our Lady said,

God casts down the mighty from their thrones, but lifts up the lowly.

Humility is what catches not only the eye of the Lord but most of all His heart!
