St. Joseph Spouse of the Virgin Mary

 Do Not Be Afraid

Some people are afraid to pray to Mary;

To get too close to Mary.

For some odd reason that it might take them away from Jesus.

This is why God sent an angel to Joseph,

That he should not be afraid to draw close to Mary,

And take her as his wife. Mt. 1:20.

And when he did, what happened.

He got Jesus!

When Joseph took Mary into his heart and his home,

Jesus came with her.

So Joseph teaches us to never be afraid to welcome Mary into our hearts,

For when we do,

The Child she bore in her womb and nursed at her breast,

Comes with her.

Monday 5th Week of Lent

Throwing Stones Jn. 8:1-11

Lay Down Your Stones

In ancient Israel it was and sad to say in some religions still today, customary to stone a woman caught in adultery.

It is a brutal and heartless act.

What is harder than the stones that are being thrown however are the hearts that are throwing them!

Sin however is not something that can be stoned out of a person or out of society.

Oftentimes personal sin and social sin are intertwined.

Because People do not grow up in a vacuum.

They learn good and evil, sin and holiness from those around them.

While we must always take responsibility for our actions and our sins,

No one grows up wanting to be a tax collector, prostitute, thief, murderer, or whatever.

There are often circumstances and situations in their life caused by family, friends, society, poverty, racism, bigotry, or war that open them up to sin and then they personally choose to walk through that door.

This circumstance or situation that all of us find ourselves in is called Original Sin.

Original Sin infected and affected everything in creation.

So that no one is without sin.

So the question is what do we do?

How do we get rid of sin?

Some people try to stone others by throwing actual stones while others choose to stone people with their words.

Neither way works.

Jesus shows us two things.

First of all there are not the righteous and the unrighteous.

Everyone has sinned and therefore no one should be stoned, physically or verbally.

Secondly, God offers forgiveness to all of us.

But forgiveness is not enough.

Then we must go and sin no more.

What we need to do is lay down our stones and pick up God's forgiveness.

5th Sunday of Lent

Moses went up Mount Sinai and God wrote the 10 commandments on stone.

But one day, as Jeremiah prophesied, God will write His Law in our hearts.

Because Until the Laws are written on our hearts nothing will change.

Laws are made to control behavior.

But they never do.

We had Prohibition and that didn’t last.

Gun control laws.

Tax laws

Laws against murder and theft.

Laws against discrimination of race, sex and creed.

Just passing a Law does nothing.

Until it is written on our hearts.

Nothing will change.

The Church has Laws.

Laws about going to Church every Sunday.

Abstaining from meat on Fridays of Lent.

Laws about going to confession once a year before Easter.

To name a few.

Yet very few people keep them.

Not until they are not written on our hearts.

Because Once you love something or someone no one has to tell you what to do.

It comes naturally.

Eagerly, Willingly, Lovingly

Once we love God with all our heart and soul

Then going to church is no longer an obligation.

Once we love our neighbor as ourself

There will be no more war or division.

God does not want to write Laws on Stone,

But His love in our hearts.

Lent is all about a change of heart.

Creating a new Heart

A Clean Heart.

A Heart not of Stone but of Love.

Friday 2nd Week of Lent

Let us kill him Gen. 373-28

Joseph’s brother were jealous of him;

Jealous of the love his father showed him;

Jealous of his multi colored coat;

Jealous of his dreams.

So they wanted to kill.

This is what jealousy does.

It seeks to kill anyone who has more

Than we do.

Who is different than us.

One cannot kill jealousy.

It only comes back to life bigger and stronger than ever.

Rather than being envious about what another person has,

Rejoice in that God has made you a totally unique individual.

And no matter what another person has.

They will never be like you!

Thursday 4th week of Lent

Intercede for sinners Ex. 32:7-14

After Moses saw that Israel had worshipped a golden calf instead of the Living God

He had one of two choices.

He could have let God wipe Israel out and start over with another people,

Or he could have interceded that God be merciful.

When we see someone who has sinned or done something wrong.

We too have one of two choices to make.

That God punish them,

Or intercede for them that God be merciful.

Wednesday 4th Week of Lent

My Father is at work. Jn. 5:17-30

Jesus tells us that His Father is at work.

And what is His work?

God the Father's work is never done.

He is always creating.

Creating new life from the smallest creature to the infant in the womb.

Creating new planets, stars and galaxies.

Creating plants and flowers and trees;

Creating rain in the heavens to water them.

It is a lot of work to keep the earth going let alone the universe!

God the Father is constantly watching and working.

He watches over His children.

He creates the world for them to live in and explore and grow.

God the Father is actually very busy at work.

And all He does is for us, His children!

Tuesday 4th Week of Lent

 O Healing River

Water is necessary for life.

That is why astronomers and astronauts are looking for water on other planets.

Without Water there is no life.

Ezekiel the prophet speaks of the living water that comes from the Temple in Jerusalem.

Not just a spring but a river that transforms the salty sea barren desert

Into banks flourishing with life.

Jesus is the Temple from Whom Living water flows.

It is no longer necessary to bathe in the waters at the pool of Bethesda to be be healed.

Jesus is the source of Healing Waters.

He is the Healing River,

From which not just healing,

But abundant Life comes.

This land is parching, this land is thirsting.

No seed is growing on the baren ground

Oh healing river send down your water

Oh healing river send your water down
