Saturday 27th Week of Ordinary Time

Why The Daily Rosary?

 At Fatima: Our Lady said, “I am the Lady of the Rosary”.

St. Francis de Sales said the greatest method of praying is: “Pray the Rosary”

St. Thomas Aquinas preached 40 straight days in Rome, Italy on just the Hail Mary.

St. John Vianney, patron of priests, was seldom seen without a rosary in his hand.

“The rosary is the scourge of the devil” - Pope Adrian VI.

“The rosary is a treasure of graces” - Pope Paul V.

Padre Pio the stigmatic priest said:  “The rosary is THE WEAPON”

Pope Leo XIII wrote 9 encyclicals on the rosary.

Pope John XXIII spoke 38 times about our Lady and the Rosary.  He prayed 15 decades daily.

St. Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort wrote: “The rosary is the most powerful weapon to touch the Heart of Jesus, Our Redeemer, who so loves His Mother.”

Friday 27th week of Ordinary Time

Feast of Pope John XXIII

Pope John XXIII was Pope at a time when the Church and Society were in great change.

The Second Vatican Council had begun and the Civil rights movement was just beginning

And all of it would lead to the tumultuous 1960’s.

And in the face of such change and upheaval,

Pope John would say,

“See everything, overlook a great deal, correct a little.”

There is really very little that one person, even a Pope can do.

So in the face of the changes taking place in our world,

Pope John gives us the same advice,

“See everything, overlook a great deal, and correct a little.”

And leave the rest to God!

Thursday 27th week of Ordinary Time

 Ask, Seek and Knock Lk 11:5-13

Jesus tells us to Ask and it will be given

Seek and we will find;

Knock and the door will be opened to us.

It sounds so simple then why do we not obtain what we want?

Because we ask for ourselves and not God’ Will;

We  seek the things of this world rather than the Kingdom of Heaven

and we knock on the wrong doors.

We should be asking to know God’s Will.

seeking only to do God’s Will

And knocking on the door of our Heavenly Father’s House.

If we do We will be blessed good measure and overflowing into the folds of our hearts.

Wednesday 27th Week of Ordinary Time

 The Lord’s Prayer Lk. 11:1-4

The Lord’s Prayer is the perfect prayer

Because it begins with God.

Calling upon God as our Father and His Holy Name

And seeking to do His Will.

Then it continues by calling to mind our daily needs

For bread and forgiveness

And acknowledging the daily temptations and evils we face.

Concluding that God will deliver us.

All prayer should therefore begin acknowledging God

And seeking to do His Will,

And then proceed to our own needs.

For when we place God first in prayer

We will be confident that He will answer ours as well.

Tuesday 27th week of Ordinary Time

The Better Part Lk. 10:38-42

Jesus came to the house of Mary and Martha

Martha chose to wait on Him

And Mary chose to sit at His feet.

Martha chose to serve the Lord

And Mary chose to pray.

Both actually made good choices.

But Mary made the better choice.

Sometimes we just have to stop what we are doing

And sit with Jesus.

Sit with Jesus in front of the Blessed Sacrament in the Tabernacle.

Sit with Jesus quietly in prayer.

And leave all of the things we have to do behind.

Monday 27th Week of Ordinary Time

Feast of the Holy Rosary

Holding Mama’s hand

Padre Pio once said,

“In times of darkness, holding the Rosary is like holding your Blessed Mother’s hand.”

Maybe we are distracted;

Maybe the words are hard to find;

But when we grab hold of the Rosary,

What really matters is that we are grabbing hold of Our Mother;s hand,

And in Mary’s hands

We will find all the love and protection and comfort we need.

That only a Mother can give.

27th Sunday of Ordinary Time

The Covenant of Marriage Mk. 10:2-16

What is the difference between a Contract and a Covenant?

A Contract is an agreements between two parties that can be broken.

For example a lease is a contract between the landlord and the tenant;

It can be altered or changed depending on the terms of the contract.

A Covenant however is a promise made by an individual that can never be broken.

God made a Covenant with Abraham to make of him a great nation.

God made  a Covenant with Noah to never destroy the earth by flood again.

God made a Covenant with Israel to be their God.

And at the Last Supper, Jesus made a New and Eternal Covenant.

God has kept His Promises.

All Sacraments are Covenants.

Where God makes a Promise to us and never goes back on it.

At Baptism God makes a Promise to always be our God.

At Confession, God keeps His Promise to always forgive us,

At Confirmation we are permanently sealed with the Holy Spirit,

At Ordination, one becomes a priest forever, for God does not take back His blessing.

And Marriage is a Covenant whereby

a bride and groom each make Promises to be true in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, all the days of his life.

Marriage is not a contract that can be broken but a Covenant that is forever.

This is why Jesus said, “what God has joined, Man cannot divide.

At the Last Supper Jesus made a New and Eternal Covenant.

That He sealed it, in His own Blood on Calvary.

Whereby He Promised to be true to us in good times and in bad;

In sickness and in health to us forever and ever;

For He is the Bridegroom and the Church is His Bride

And Heaven is an Eternal Wedding Feast.
