High Hopes
Frank Sinatra who many of you are familiar with,
Sang a song called High Hopes.
Where he sings about a little old ant trying to move a rubber tree plant.
And to do that, that ant had to have High Hopes.
Not just High Hopes but
High Apple Pie in the Sky Hopes.
Because everyone knows an ant can’t
Move a rubber tree plant!
So when you’re getting low,
Stead of letting go,
Just remember that Ant!
Sometimes things in life just seem Hopeless.
The Jews had been exiled in Babylon
They had lost everything
Their homes, their temple,
Their money, and their land.
But Ezekiel tells them to have not just Hope, but High Hopes.
He tells them that God will take a tender shoot
And from that shoot will come branches and fruit
And a majestic cedar,
In which birds of every kind will dwell in it.
And Israel will flourish even greater than ever before.
In the Face of Despair,
Ezekiel was a prophet of Hope.
What kind of prophet are we?
Do we point out everything that is wrong?
Do we remind others of how Hopeless it is?
Or are we Hopeful?
Prophets see what others cannot.
This is why they are prophets.
Anyone can see the problem
But how many can see the solution?
Anyone can see how bad things are,
But who is the one who still has Hope?
If you have Hope.
then like that ant,
there ain’t no Rubber Tree Plant you can’t move.
God Bless
