27th Sunday of Ordinary Time

We Proclaim the Death of the Lord.

When we eat this Bread and Drink this Cup,

We proclaim your death O Lord, Until you come again!

When we eat this Bread, what are eating?

Is it not the Body of the Lord?

The same Body that was scourged and crowned and crucified?

And when we drink this this Cup,

Are we not drinking the same Blood that was poured out on the cross for our salvation?

And since it is, we are proclaiming the Death of the Lord,

Every time we do.

But What does it mean to “Proclaim the death of the Lord?”

We Proclaim the death of every soldier on Memorial Day.

We proclaim the death of Policemen and Firemen

By naming highways after them.

And we do this so that their sacrifice is not forgotten.

If we do that for them,

How much more should we proclaim the Death of the Lord!

Because His sacrifice saved the entire world.

But the only ones who understand the Sacrifice that Jesus made for them,

Are Sinners and the Dead.

Sinners understand because they are people who live with regret and sorrow

Over what they did or did not do.

And that can be an overwhelming burden;

Jesus however died for sinners.

By His death they receive the Forgiveness that sets them free.

The Dead understand it because they no longer care about

Being popular or winning or money.

They only care about Eternal Life.

The Death of the Lord,

Has opened the Gates of Paradise for them.

So one could say that Proclaiming the Death of the Lord

Only makes sense to Sinners and the Dead.

But in the end that really applies to all of Humanity.

Because who really hasn’t sinned or have regrets in this life,

Who is going to escape death?

So when we eat this Bread and drink this Cup,

We are Proclaiming the Death of the Lord;

We are offering people forgiveness for their sins,

And freedom from the prison of their graves.

And that is Good News to Proclaim.

For everyone could use it.

If not today then one day!
