15th Sunday of Ordinary Time

Sowing and reaping   Mt. 13:1-23

I am no farmer,

But I am sure There is more to farming than just planting season

and then sitting around until harvest time.

There is fertilizers, pesticides, managing weeds and monitoring the crops.

Did I miss anything?

Most likely.

A fruitful harvest takes work.

And there is more to God sowing the seed of His Word in our hearts,

Than just coming to Mass.

At Mass, every week,

God plants a seed in our heart.

And For it to bear fruit we must first be receptive;

So many things block grace from taking root in our souls;

Sin, doubt, fear of change, self will, preoccupied with other things.

Do we even remember the readings one hour after Mass?

And then comes Monday,

When The pressure, the anxiety and hectic pace of life

Keeps the word of God from taking root in our souls.

And then we wonder why we do not get much out of Mass.

God plants the seed of His Word every Sunday.

We must listen and be receptive;

And Then We must water it

with prayer and  reflection and put it into practice.

Whether it bears a hundred, sixty or thirty fold, or none at all.

depends on us.
