God Give you Peace.
At the time of St. Francis
The church was falling into ruin and all the cities were at war with one another.
It was a terrible mess;
Ezekiel the prophet said that if a person sees wickedness,
They should be confronted and warned;
So how did St. Francis respond?
To all the problems he saw around him?
He could have pointed it all out;
Usually however pointing out another person’s sins,
Only hardens their heart.
How open are we to the criticism and correction of others?
Instead Francis went around saying
“God give you Peace.”
Because there must first be Peace in one’s heart;
Before opening one’s mouth.
One cannot Give Peace,
until one has Peace!
Only when one begins to wrestle with the issues and sins;
The conflicts and anger in one’s own heart;
And begins to make Peace with oneself;
Will one have the Peace to give to another.
So that when they hear your voice,
They will not harden their heart!
