Epiphany

Epiphany

What did you get for Christmas?
What did you get last year?
10 years ago.

Most of what we get never lasts.
The things that do however are special
Not because how much they cost
But because of the sentiment behind it.
Because of the loving memory it brings to mind.

So when the Wise men came bearing gifts to the King of Heaven
They had to figure out what He might want.

They decided on
Gold because Jesus was a King.
Frankincense because He was a Priest who would offer sacrifice;
The sacrifice of Himself.
And Myrrh to anoint His body for the day of his burial.

Just as Mary gave birth and placed Jesus in the Manger
So at every Mass
Jesus becomes flesh again in the Eucharist and is placed on the altar.

Like the Wise Men who brought gifts to Jesus in the manger
What gifts do we bring to Jesus on the altar?

If we give gifts to one another every Christmas
How much more should we bring a gift to the King of Heaven.

What do you think that He would like?

I am not going to tell you what to bring because gifts are very personal.
When we give a gift to those we love
We put in a lot of time and thought into it.
Because we want To give a gift that shows how much we love them and what they mean to us.

So each one of us must look into our hearts
And think, what can I give to Jesus?
What would He like?
What would show Him how much I love Him.

And then bring that gift to every Mass,
For at every Mass Jesus is born again and becomes flesh on the altar.
And gives us the gift of Himself;

What gift do we give Him in return?
